Meet the Team

Director 

Ryan Sharston, Ph.D.


Dr. Sharston is an assistant professor in the School of Architecture and Rinker School of Construction Management at the University of Florida. He is also a licensed architect and civil and environmental engineer. For nearly two decades, he has taught, researched, and practiced sustainable design and environmental technologies in various academic and industrial settings.

Current Students

Jingyuan Shen

Ph.D. Student

Jingyuan is a teaching assistant at the UF Rinker School of Construction Management at DCP and a graduate research assistant at the FIBER. Her research focuses on human perception and its interactions with the smart built environment. Currently, she is working on the relationship between occupants' comfort and energy efficiency through building's control system. In her spare time, she likes reading, traveling, drawing, running, and Yoga.

Alumni

Manan Singh, Ph.D

Manan Singh graduated from the UF College of Design, Construction and Planning (DCP) in June 2023. His research focuses on urban microclimates and its interactions with built environment in current and future scenarios. He holds an undergraduate and a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Thermal Sciences and Fluid Dynamics. He is also a certified E.I.T. and LEED BD+C advanced professional. In his free time, he likes to hike, camp, kayak, or read.

Stephen Boyle

Stephen Boyle is an aspiring green builder for closed-loop energy and water independent building systems with the dream of designing “Living Buildings.” He received a bachelor’s degree in Building Construction from the University of North Florida and a master’s degree in Sustainable Design from UF DCP. His area of interest includes building environmentally conscious structures or systems aimed at addressing the negative impacts created by the built environment.
