Adaptive Built Environment Lab
Environmentally-conscious & Dynamically-adaptive Building Envelope™ (EDBE™) project
This project will fabricate, implement, and test a façade system as a proof of concept for the real-world implementation of an energy neutral and dynamically adaptive solution that not only improves indoor environment quality (IEQ) but also generates energy savings and provides resilience to natural hazards.
This project will be conducted to achieve multiple functionalities: shading, daylighting, insulation, energy generation, and wind resilience.
Shading: minimize annual sun exposure and daylight glare probability
Daylighting: maximize spatial daylight autonomy.
Insulation: minimize heat transfer
Energy Generation: equipped with photo voltaic cells to generate sufficient operational energy
Wind resilience: act as storm shutters to provide resilience to wind-based natural hazards
